STONECREST — Prestonsburg scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and the Blackcats held on to beat Belfry 1-0 on May 18.

Grant Anderson walked in the first inning and advanced to third on an infield single by Trey Stapleton before scoring on an errant pick-off attempt throw.

Belfry, now 23-8, outhit the Blackcats (22-13) 5-2. Losing pitcher Jared Master singled while Zack Francisco had two hits and Howie Dotson added one.

Prestonsburg’s Adam Crisp pitched five innings to earn the win. He scattered four hits. Masters pitched a complete game, allowing two hits while striking out nine. He walked three and hit one batter.

INEZ — East Ridge erupted for six runs in the top of the third inning and the Warriors cruised to an 11-1 victory over Sheldon Clark at Frank Horn Field on May 17.

Winning pitcher Tyler Bentley allowed one run on three hits in going the distance. He struck out five and walked one.

Adam Ward had two hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. One of his hits was a triple. Colby Little added two hits and knocked in three runs and Tyler Ray had one hit and drove in two runs. Cody Smith went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Johnny Miller had two hits.



At Inez

GOODY — Belfry broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Pirates went on to beat Lawrence County 5-0 on May 17.

The Pirates, now 23-7, scored four runs in the home fourth inning to beat the Bulldogs for the first time in the eight-year reign of Coach Michael Hagy.

Tyler Williams pitched a complete game one-hit shutout.



He struck out four and walked two. Lawrence County’s Ryan Kingsmore singled with two outs in the fourth inning.

Williams doubled home two runs in the four-run fourth for the Pirates. Zac Field and Williams both scored on errors.

Howie Dotson’s RBI single in the fifth capped the scoring.



At Goody

PIKEVILLE — Pikeville’s Jacob Hamilton pitched five scoreless and no-hit innings and Randy Maynard didn’t allow a hit over the final two as the Panthers beat Pike County Central 9-1 at Davis Field on May 17.

Gavin Miller went 3-for-3 to lead the Panthers, now 23-6. Miller belted a triple, double and single while driving in two runs.

Jacob Burke added an RBI single and Conner Pack tripled, singled and drove in four runs while Hamilton had an RBI triple.



At Pikeville

JENKINS — Jenkins’ Tim Seal belted a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Jordan Rose with the winning run as the Cavaliers rallied to beat Phelps 12-11 on May 16.

Seals’ game-winning hit capped a four-run rally to help the Cavaliers improve to 11-15.

Rose was the winning pitcher. Seals had three hits on the day.

ROBINSON CREEK — Shelby Valley’s Devin Newsome pitched and hit the Wildcats to a 7-6 victory over Betsy Layne at Dale Trivette Field on May 16.

Newsome had two hits, including a double, as the Wildcats improved to 12-14.

Betsy Layne’s Andrew Roberts doubled and drove in two runs and Houstan Hall added a double.

Landon Hale was the losing pitcher.

Colby Little and Kyle Adkins had three hits each. Adkins knocked in two runs and both scored one run. Cody Smith had one hit, scored one run and drove in one run.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Union hurler Nathan Baker limited Letcher Central to just three hits and the Bears pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a hard-fought 6-5 win over the Cougars on May 16.

Central’s Dakota Yonts doubled and drove in one run while Zane Blair and Mason Salyer added RBIs.

Union’s Logan Dishner had three hits, including a double and drove in one run. Baker added two hits.
