Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) welcomes Rachel Fitzgerald, O.D., to the staff. She will be seeing pediatric patients at the Optometry Clinic.

Fitzgerald received a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. She continued her education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and received a Doctor of Optometry degree graduating with honors.

She completed a residency in pediatric/binocular vision at the Indiana University School of Optometry.

Dr. Fitzgerald is serving as a senior clinical instructor of optometry which is a new position at Kentucky College of Optrometry. She will largely be serving in the Optometry Clinic to provide eye care to children. She will also be working with optometry students in both clinic and lecture and will be assisting in the Binocular Vision, Strabismus & Oculomotor Rehabilitation, Vision Therapy, Ocular Motility and Pediatric Optometry courses.

"I enjoy working with and helping people," said Dr. Fitzgerald. "I have a large amount of experience working with children prior to pursuing optometry and love helping children see their best while providing an enjoyable and comfortable trip to the doctor's office."

Away from her positions as an optometrist and clinical instructor, Dr. Fitzgerald enjoys hiking and being outdoors. She also enjoys weight training, cooking, trying new cuisines and is planning a wedding in October.
