Panthers secure No. 1 seed

PIKEVILLE — The Pikeville Panthers locked up the 59th District’s top seed and berth in the 15th Region tournament with a 56-41 victory over Shelby Valley in a game played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Feb. 7.

 

Wyatt Battaile tossed in 15 points and Evan Rhodes added 11 as the Panthers improved to 15-7 and 6-1 in district play.

 

Blake Burke paced the Wildcats, now 14-11 and 3-3, with a game-high 16 points.

 

Pikeville took control of the game in the third period, turning a 23-19 halftime advantage into a lead of 38-21 heading into the final eight minutes.

Senior standout Mason Blair poured in a game-high 29 points and Cole Crace added 21 as the Golden Eagles moved to 20-6.

 

Corey May led the Hawks (13-12) with 20 points as Central landed four players in double-figure scoring. Blake Wallace tossed in 12 while Ryan Eads and Seth Conn added 10 apiece.

Matt Miller led three Warriors in scoring with 20 points. Michael Conn followed with 15 and Justin Potter added 12.
