STANVILLE — Betsy Layne head coach Scotty McCoy was less than three minutes from a successful debut with the Bobcats.


Sheldon Clark senior running back Blake Butcher spoiled the night.


Butcher scored on an eight-yard run to lift the Cardinals to a come-from-behind 26-24 win at Bobcat Stadium on Aug. 18.


Betsy Layne, which trailed 20-16 at halftime, took the lead with just under four minutes to play in the third quarter when receiver Grant Orsborn hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Bradley Woods to make it 24-20 following Woods' two-point conversion run.


Orsborn had a TD reception in the first half and caught five passes for 50 yards. Woods completed 9-of-20 passes for 64 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown.


Running back Logan Layne led the ground attack with 113 yards on 23 rushes.


Defensively, Morris Adkins had nine tackles and one fumble recovery while Jeremiah Keathley added eight.


Quinton Adkins recovered a fumble and Orsborn had a pass interception.


Quarterback Blake Muncy led the Cardinals with 116 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries. Brent Burke added 73 yards and two scores on 16 rushing attempts.


Betsy Layne will travel to Floyd Central (1-0) on Aug. 25. Sheldon Clark will play its second straight road game with a visit to Knott Central.
