STOP SMOKING!

Smoking is a leading cause of heart disease, not to mention Lung Cancer. Pikeville Medical Center offers free smoking cessation classes.  For more information, click here.

One of the best ways to deal with heart health issues is to try to prevent them from ever happening. While not all heart problems are preventable, many of them are and even reversable if you choose to persue a healthy lifestyle. Some of the most important things you can do for your heart health are:

  1. Start excercising regularly (with a doctor's supervision)
  2. Lower your cholesterol if it is elevated
  3. Control high blood pressure
  4. Reduce your intake of salt and sodium
  5. If you are overweight, start shedding those pounds with diet and exercise.

Pikeville Medical Center is making great strides to promote healthy lifestyles among its employees, and our community as well. We do this because it is the right thing to do and it saves lives. Pikeville Medical Center sponsors 5K and 10K races as well as "Fun Runs" and Mile Walks, free smoking cessation courses. In addition, Pikeville Medical Center, as well as the city of Pikeville have established walking paths to encourage walking for more healthy lifestyles.
