Belfry runs past Bryan Station

LEXINGTON — Belfry running backs Taveon Hunter and Derek Wellman combined for 377 yards and four touchdowns as the Pirates cruised past Bryan Station, 40-19, in a game played on Sept. 1.


Wellman finished with 201 yards on 23 rushes and Hunter added 176 as the Pirates moved to 1-1 on the season.


Belfry took a 7-0 lead in the opening period on Wellman's 30-yard run and Dylan Brown's PAT kick.


Hunter's 67-yard run early in the second period pushed the Pirates up 13-0.


Bryan Station cut the deficit in half as quarterback Jalen Burbage tossed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Murphy to make it 13-7.


Belfry built its lead to 27-7 by halftime as Hunter raced 70 yards for a touchdown and Peyton Hensley added a six-yard run.


Running back Justin Adkins scored on an 18-yard run in the third period and Wellman went 11 yards for another touchdown to push Belfry up 40-7.




Burbage scored on a 33-yard run and Chris Benton returned a fumble 33 yards for the game's final points.


Belfry will return to action in a 7 p.m. kickoff tonight at Newport Central Catholic (1-1).
